4 Ways to Overcome Self Doubt

Every single one of us has moments of self doubt. You wouldn't be human if you didn't! Especially with the way the media portrays things; it can be easy to feel insecure. Some of us have these thoughts more then others. You can't always control where you mind wanders to, but you can control how you overcome it.

Low self confidence and self doubt is something that I have personally struggled with throughout my entire life. It affected me to the point where I was letting it take over my life. I felt lost and unsure of where I wanted my life to go. Whenever I felt myself feeling doubtful of myself I used these 4 methods that have personally helped me to stay positive, stay grounded and stay true to myself.

1 - Stop comparing yourself to others

Your probably thinking, "Well that's easier said then done right". We all compare ourselves to others, especially in this day and age with how much access we have to social media. The problem with social media is that people often try to portray a certain image of themselves, of which may not be entirely accurate. Frequently, you see these images and you immediately think "oh he/she is so fit, or pretty" but a lot of the times these images do not accurately portray reality and pictures can be touched up just like real ads.

Whenever you find yourself starting to doubt yourself, challenge yourself to think of one thing that you are proud of or are excited about in your own life.  Focus on this one thing and really use it to remind yourself of how amazing your truly are! Everyone on this earth has something unique that makes themselves so special! Focus on that one thing that makes you feel like your best self. This will help you feel more positive.

Another way to stop comparing yourself to others is to own your vision and goals. Write down your goals and the vision of where you want to be in 5, 10 or 15 years; make your vision exciting, you can make your vision anything you want since its YOUR vision! By being excited about the things you are up to in your own life, whatever is happening in other peoples lives won't make you feel any less.

2.  Knowing you have the power of choice

We can not always control the things that happen in our lives, but we CAN control how we move forward from it.

By consciously choosing to take responsibly in all areas of your life, you will learn and grow more then you thought possible. In any type of scenario you can choose how to react; you can look at it as a learning opportunity or beat yourself up over it.

Remember that its not about what happens to you, but all about how you CHOOSE to respond to each situation and what you do about it. Whatever you put out to the universe is what you will get in return.

3.   Create a personal mantra

Your personal mantra can just be something short and sweet.; it is a positive phrase that you say over and over again to yourself. At first, you may have a hard time believing yourself when you say it. Thats a natural feeling to have, especially because you were just doubting yourself.

When you catch yourself starting to doubt or feel down about your life, repeat the mantra you create for yourself (out loud or in your head). Even if your conscious mind does not fully believe it, by repeating this phrase, you will direct your subconscious mind. In addition, by repeating your positive mantra, you will naturally draw positivity from the universe and you may use them as encouragement. An example of what a mantra can be “You are confident, smart, worthy and beautiful” or “This too shall pass”.

4.    Make time for yourself

We can get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget to make time for ourselves. We get in a routine and get lost in the chaos.

Making time for the things that make YOU feel your best self is the key. It can be as small as reading a book, getting creative, or spending time out in nature. Whatever it is that brings you that sense of calmness and peace.

Its those moments that we feel like we are living and being our best selves. The more you make time for the moments, the easier it is to over come self doubt.
